Jessamyn Kingsley's D'viare series has become a favorite of mine, and this is a wonderful addition. The D'Vaire universe operates around the idea of mated pairs finding each other. You have Sentinals (undead assassins), Necromancers, Warlocks, Wizards, Fallen Knights (undead police and lawyers), shifters of all types, demons, vampires, etc.First off, make sure you have read the rest of the series. Jessamyn's books are interconnected, with characters from the previous novels playing major roles in subsequent ones. This is especially true with Honorable Convictions. Mitchell and Pierson are Juris Knights (FK lawyers) first mentioned WAAAAAAY back in book 4 of the series, and they play significant roles in several of the others.Jessamyn's writing has steadily improved with each new entry in the series, and this is no exception. The story has light angst, but not TOO much (which is nice after the previous full novel Heart of the High King, which was a total angst-fest). The problem is that the two MCs are both competitive and stubborn, and they can't seem to get out of their own way to let their relationship develop. They IMMEDIATELY know that they are fated mates, but... their first meeting is under less than ideal circumstances and the misunderstandings go from there.Mitchell and Pierson have been HEAVILY speculated about by the "Ruffians," Jessamyn's FB fan group, so many of us were thrilled when they did, indeed, turn out to be mates. Jessamyn gives us a wonderful story of the two FINALLY getting together. Again, though, I really insist that you read the rest of the series, as part of their story plays out there as well (though we do get quick "drop-ins" of some of the scenes from their POV).Jessamyn's book and novellas are well-written, and as I said she gets better with each new entry. If you are looking for MM fantasy that contains drama, comedy, and isn't afraid to BRING angst at times, I recommend not only this novel but the entire series. Begin with Dra'kaeden's Coven and strap in for the ride! Everything started out okay until Mitchell and Pierson meet for the first time. After that competition and jealousy colored every interaction with each other. Pierson broke my heart with how insecure and frightened he was of his office mates and how Mitchell added to Pierson being shunned. Had to bring out tissues when Mitchell realized what he had done to drive away his mate. I couldn’t stop reading once I started, again with all of Jessamyn K’s books! You will invest in every character and cry over them!
