Ebook About Oliver Hayes wears his heart on his sleeve, and his friends never let him forget it. Every Friday night spent at Wild Side, their favorite West Hollywood bar, Oliver’s lack of hookups becomes the hot topic. It’s not that he doesn’t want a good time. He just wants it to mean something, which is a lofty goal when he’s still pining after his childhood crush, Matt, who left ten years ago to start a new life in New York City.Matt Daniels has always felt most at home seated at a piano. He might not have entirely fit in with his family and friends, but he was always able to find himself in music. Or at least he did before he gave up his dream a lifetime ago. Now, he has a successful modeling career and should be enjoying every second of it. Yet nothing feels right, and Matt fears he’s losing himself.Just when Oliver decides to get over Matt for good, Matt waltzes back into LA. As Matt struggles to understand what he’s missing in his seemingly perfect life, he falls right back into leaning on Oliver for support. Things aren’t what they used to be between them, though. They tumble into bed together, and it’s hard not to continue ending up there. For the first time in years, Matt’s inspired to compose again, reigniting a spark he thought long extinguished. But as always, Oliver can’t keep his heart in check, and soon Matt realizes he’s gone for Oliver too. The biggest question is, can he fully give himself to someone if he still hasn’t figured out how to love himself?Book Gone for You (Wild Side Book 1) Review :
One of my favorite tropes in M/M Romance is the friends-to-lovers. When done right, it can show the deepening of a connection that already exists. I want to be able to feel that bond before it deepens, to be able to see why the two characters are as close as they are. And then I want that depth explored, good or bad, from every vantage point possible. One of my favorite authors in the genre is Riley Hart. She has the ability to create characters that may be a little flawed, but they're written in such a way that you can't help but fall in love with them.Put the two together, and it's like a Reese's Peanut Butter cup.Ollie and Matt are two of Riley's more complex characters. One has a Superman complex, always feeling the need to step in and fix someone else's problems, while the other views himself as less than what he truly is. The chemistry between the two of them is palpable. You can truly feel how they feel about each other, and it's both a heartbreaking and wonderful experience. The writing is touching and poignant, and you can't help to fall in love with them. There were also three little surprises that I've never seen in this kind of book. I won't spoil what they are, but suffice it to say, they were well executed.I can't say enough about this book. As the first in a new series, I truly can't wait for the rest. I generally enjoy Riley Hart's work and was really excited about this book. It left me feeling kind of empty, the emotional aspect of the book was sort of sketched and somehow the sexual components ended up feeling empty. It wasn't for lack of trying on Ms. Hart's part, she did her best to imbue the story with plenty of history and angst... To the point where it was heavy handed imo. I guess my frustration lies in the fact that these men fell in love when they were kids but we the reader aren't let in on that process, the whole story is Matt resisting. When you use a main character as the plot device to stop their relationship it can have the consequence of making that character unlikable. Ollie looooooves Matt but the whole time I just wanted someone to treat Ollie how he deserved. Everything centered around Matt and pretty soon I was bored and over it. I became frustrated with Oliver for even wasting his time in Matt. I think there were pacing issues with this book, the resolution felt super rushed compared to the endlessly tiresome build up. I'm curious about Mike's book but I'm scared now and I'm gonna need a break to recover before I can delve back in. I gave it a 3 star rating for prose and effort.
